About the congress

ZOOLOGY, formerly named the Benelux Congress of Zoology, is an annual zoological meeting, held alternatingly in The Netherlands and Belgium, and is organised by the KNDV or our Belgian sister organization, the Royal Belgian Zoological Society.

The congress includes invited lectures and oral/poster presentations by participants. It is an excellent opportunity for zoology students and young scientists to meet colleagues and to present and discuss the results of their research.

Moreover, the congress gives an overview of the current scientific work at most universities and zoological institutes in Belgium and The Netherlands, and thus provides ample opportunity for establishing contacts for collaboration. The approximately 200 participants range from newly graduated students to senior scientists.

Since 2001 the Distinguished Zoologist Lecture is delivered during the meeting in The Netherlands.

Forthcoming ZOOLOGY congress

From 27 to 29 November, ZOOLOGY 2019 will take place in Groningen (the Netherlands). The congress will be organized in collaboration with the Netherlands Society for Behavioural Biology (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Gedragsbiologie) and the Royal Belgian Zoological Society.



This year's edition will be the 26th zoology congress that was formerly called the Benelux Congress of Zoology.

The general theme of the meeting will be "Learning and Memory in the Animal Kingdom".

As usual, the congress will also welcome all contributions from the field of zoology, from the molecule to the biosphere. Thematic sessions will be organized depending on received abstracts.

All zoologists, at any stage of their career, are very welcome to participate actively during the meeting, and young scientists are particularly encouraged to contribute.

The Distinguished Zoologist lecture will be delivered by Richard Morris, professor of Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh.
