The Royal Belgian Zoological Society (visit us at RBZS.be) is a non-profit scientific organization based at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels. Established in 1863, RBZS has a long history of supporting the advancement of research in zoology and animal sciences. We are committed to promoting high-level scientific research, publishing the Belgian Journal of Zoology, and connecting zoologists across Belgium and beyond.
However, our work extends far beyond publications. RBZS organizes key events
like the annual Benelux Congress of Zoology in partnership with the Royal Dutch Zoological Society, provides a platform for emerging researchers to present their work, and hosts workshops and events to support early-career scientists, including PhD students and university master’s candidates. We also distribute grants and awards to young researchers for field campaigns, museum or lab internships, helping to support their careers and the future of zoological research.
The Belgian Journal of Zoology (https://belgianjournalofzoology.eu/BJZ), a diamond open-access journal, publishes cutting-edge research in all areas of zoology, from ecology and evolution to genetics and physiology. With its high visibility, BJZ is a crucial resource for the global scientific community.

While our society is funded by membership fees and subsidies from the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) and the Belgian University Foundation (FU), our growing impact has also led to increasing costs, including professional accounting, event organization, website management, and more.
